What's going on Pinfinity Fans! Josh here, and today we're taking a look at a new "Top 5" series, this time for one of the most beloved video game franchises of all time: Street Fighter! We have some really exciting Street Fighter news coming very soon, so it only makes sense to celebrate one of the quintessential fighting games while we wait!

For this week, I'll be covering my five favorite fighters, and next week we'll be featuring five other members of the Pinfinity team discussing their favorites. Now, I have to admit... I am a bit of an OG purist when it comes to Street Fighter, and when it comes to my favorite games, characters, etc, I lean heavily into nostalgia - and this list is certainly no different!

So, without further ado, here's my top 5 list for my favorite chracters in Street Fighter!

Number Five: Sagat

Sagat goes all the way back to the original Street Fighter, but instead of being a playable character at the time, he was actually the final boss, and subsequently another boss to face in Street Fighter II. Sagat, the "Emperor of Muay Thai" was originally a member of the evil Shadaloo organization, and a personal bodyguard to M. Bison (more on him in a moment...), but he later learns the error of his

FUN FACT: One of Sagat's iconic traits, aside from his sweet eye patch, is the large scar on his chest, which he received after being severely wounded in a fight with series staple Ryu.

Number Four: Vega

Vega, the Spanish Ninja/Assassin, has been a fan-favorite since his arrival as a boss in Street Fighter II, and later as a playable character in the updated Street Fighter II: Champion Edition. This masked, claw-wielding assassin is handsome AF, and very much knows it, and when he's not preoccupied with admiring his own beauty, he's busy a personal bodyguard to big bad boss man, M. Bison.

Number Three: Chun-Li

Easily one of the raddest women in gaming history, up there with other iconic female trailblazers like Samus Aran, Chun-Li jumped into the fighting game scene in Street Fighter II. She is an expert martial artist and is one of the primary protagonists for the entire Street Fighter series as she seeks vengeance on M. Bison for the death of her father. In the game, she became known for her relentless power

FUN FACT: Chun-Li is the first ever playable female character in a fighting game.

Number Two: M. Bison

Often, a video game or video game series is only as good as its villain, and M. Bison is certainly one of the most iconic and consistent villians in gaming history. First introduced in Street Fighter II as a boss bottle, he was later added as a playable character when Street Fighter II: Champion Edition was released. This dictator is truly diabolical and is hell-bent on world domination.

FUN FACT: In the original Japanese version, Mike (M.) Bison was actually the name of the boxing character known in the US as Balrog, and the megalomaniac dictator was called Vega. But when the game was brought to the United States, the name Bison had to be swapped to the evil general we know him as today, due to the fact that the original boxing character was clearly inspired by none other than boxing great Mike Tyson!

Number One: Blanka

And finally, my number one favorite Street Fighter character ever is easily my main man Jimmy, aka Blanka. Like many of the folks on this list, this feral man from Brazil was added to the roster for Street Fighter II, and despite his character being kind and compassionate, he can truly be a wild force to be reckoned with if you cross him! He's iconci for his lycanthropic depiction, green skin, and electrical abilities - the latter of which I used almost exclusively as a kid, much to the chagrine and frustration of my friends who got tired of me spamming his electric shock abilities... Sorry, not sorry!

So, what do you think of my list? Did I nail it, or do you think you have a better top five to go 5v5 against me? If so, let me know on social!
